(AllHipHop News) In recent weeks, there’s been a debate in the Hip Hop community about the best rap album of 2017 so far.
Both Jay-Z’s 4:44 and Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN have been put up as the leading contenders for the honor.
Comedic legend Dave Chappelle spoke about the two platinum certified LPs during a sit down with Hot 97.
“I’m turning 44. This guy’s saying stuff that I want to hear, and I can understand all the words,” said Chappelle about Jay’s 4:44. “It’s a record for a person of my time. It’s the first time – I think – that a guy of his age can make a relevant record. And it’s fun to see a genre like Hip Hop be mature like this.”
The DMV-raised comedian later discussed DAMN.
“Everybody loves that Kendrick record. That kid is the perfect reflection of many great influences. When he was coming up listening to music, I think he had a good diet,” stated Chappelle. “I like him. He’s fun to watch too.”
Dave Chappelle is preparing for his August shows at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall.
The 16-date residency will feature special guests like The Roots, Lil Wayne, Common, Erykah Badu, Chance The Rapper, Childish Gambino, Talib Kweli, Yasiin Bey, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Solange, and more.
