UK rapper Dizzee Rascal
was arrested yesterday (March 2) in East London, after authorities found illegal
weapons and marijuana in a car he was traveling in.
Police stopped Dizzee Rascal
and three other men in the vehicle. A subsequent search turned up pepper spray,
which is deemed an “offensive weapon,” as well as an ASP baton and
the marijuana.
Dizzee Rascal, born Dylan
Mills, was arrested as was the 34-year-old driver of the vehicle.
The other three men in the
car were not charged.
Dizzee Rascal and the unidentified
driver were both released on bail and must return to court April 8, the same
day the rapper is due in the United States for a show in Salt Lake City, Utah
for a performance.
Dizzee Rascal’s
debut album Boy in Da Corner received critical acclaim upon its release.
The album later
snagged UK’s Mercury Music Prize in 2003, making Dizzee Rascal the first
rapper to win the prize.
