Dr.
Dre
donated $1 million dollars to help withthe relief efforts, due to the terrorist attacks that
leveled the World Trade Center and smashed a portion
of the Pentagon. The donation, went to Los Angeles’
Hot 106 FM’s Power Of The Dollar fundraising campaign.
Other artists have also donated as well. Russell Simmons
donated $20,000, Def Jam gave $25,000 Fubu donated $25,000,
Baby from Cash Money gave $100,000 The Rza donated $10,000
and Lyor Cohen, President of Island Def Jam gave $10,000.
Radio jock Big Boy asked each of Power’s 1.6 million
listeners to donate a dollar each to the fund, with
the aim of raising $1.6 million.
"The
outpouring of support from the people has been amazing,"
Big Boy said. "This tragedy has touched everyone.
We wanted to do something immediately to help these
innocent victims. I thought if each of our 1.6 million
listeners donated $1 dollar each, we’d raise over $1
million dollars for victim relief. That’s the power
of a dollar."
New York
City sister station Hot 97 is doing the same thing.
They have established the Hip-Hop Has Heart Foundation.
They too are asking for $1 dollar from each listener.
In related
Dr. Dre news, in addition to working with female R&B
artist, Truth Hurts and Hip-Hop icon Rakim, he recently
penned a screen play based on his rise from the projects,
to being one of the top producers in the world. Tentatively
titled "Please Listen To My Demo," the script
is still in the process of being sold.
