(AllHipHop News) Fetty Wap dominated the Billboard charts in 2014-2015. Over that period, the New Jersey native saw his first three songs reach the Top 10 of the Hot 100 which was the first time a rapper achieved that feat since Chingy in 2004.
When award season came around, Fetty and some of his followers expected him to rack up. The “Trap Queen” rhymer did pick up a 2015 BET Award nominations for Best New Artist, but he lost the trophy to Sam Smith.
Fetty Wap stopped by the Desus & Mero show this week and spoke about BET honoring Smith over him. That defeat apparently deeply bothered the For My Fans mixtape creator.
“When we had the nominations for the Grammys and the BET Awards, and I lost that year. That really kind of took my spirit from the music world. I kind of like shied back,” said Fetty. “I think everybody in the world felt [like I earned it].”
He added, “Twitter, Instagram, all these people were like, ‘Fetty Wap gotta win this sh-t. He’s the best new artist. He got the best new song. That sh-t run the world right now.’ Then, boom!”
Fetty also stated that loss convinced him the awards were rigged. The 300 Entertainment artist confessed, “It broke me down a little bit. I don’t know how else to put it.”
