Nas has announced
the finalists for Thief’s Theme – a competition Sony had opened for
UK rappers a couple of months ago.
The contest attracted
over 2,000 entries across Great Britain. Rappers were encouraged to download
the instrumental version of his single "Thief’s Theme."
The final winner
will be selected by Nas himself and brought to London courtesy of Sony Music
to record their verse in a recording studio.
The eight finalists
include Trebor, TB, Arcane, Lavish, Baby Blue, Yungun, Rising Sun and Lowkey.
The final winner
will be announced within a couple of weeks.
The winner’s
prize could be the chance of a lifetime – a verse on Nas’ upcoming
album Street’s Disciple, which is set to be released on November
29th 2004.
In related news,
Nas was expected to appear at last week’s MOBO’s, alongside his
jazz musician father, Olu Dara.
The pair was expected
to perform Nas’ new single, “Bridging the Gap,” but the performance
was canceled due to recording commitments.
Nevertheless, the
father and son combo are set to perform in the UK later this month, but dates
have yet-to-be announced.
