Officials at Georgia State University suspended

a fraternity after two of its members appeared at a Hip-Hop theme party in blackface.

The university’s Senate Committee on Student

Discipline ruled that the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, which is mostly white,

violated the code of conduct for students during the party, which took place

in late January.

Black fraternity members from Phi Beta Sigma

complained to officials and the dean of students agreed with the Senate Committee’s

finding.

As a result, Pi Kappa Alpha’s charter is suspended

until December 19 and alcohol will be barred until May of 2005.

The fraternity must also issue a written apology

to Phi Beta Sigma and participate in community service of Phi Beta Sigma’s choice.
