Future On Adapting In His Relationship With Ciara: “They Had Me Going The Cornball Route”

THE FREEBANDZ BOSS WANTS THE WORLD TO KNOW THE R&B SINGER ISN’T THE ONLY SUPERSTAR HE’S BEEN WITH

(AllHipHop News) Despite the project being praised by professional critics, some Future fans consider Honest to be the Atlanta rhymer’s least effective project.

Honest was released around the time the man born Nayvadius Wilburn was engaged to Ciara Harris.

The R&B songstress announced the end of the engagement in August 2014, just three months after giving birth to their son Future Zahir.

In a new Billboard cover story, the Freebandz leader suggests the relationship with Ciara may have played a part in the artistic direction of his 2014 LP.

Future has been open about using drugs to inspire his creative process.

It appears the 33-year-old chart topper was not as active in smoking marijuana or drinking “dirty sprite” during the time he was recording Honest because of his ties to Ciara.

Billboard reports:

That said, he doesn’t seem to have the fondest memories of the attempts he made to adapt himself to the relationship with Ciara, including cutting back on weed and codeine and the rest of his lengthy pharmacopoeia. “They had me going the cornball route!” he says with a bitter little laugh. And anyway, Future notes that not even the women he’s writing about — clearly not all Ciara — will know who the tracks are really about. “What the people don’t understand is, I been kicking it with superstars when it comes to females for a minute — on the low-low with nobody don’t know-know.” At which point Future cracks a big grin and laughs.

Honest dropped before Future’s “three-peat” series of well-received mixtapes – Monster, Beast Mode, and 56 Nights – which elevated him to one of the top artists in Hip Hop.

Many listeners believe that successful run of releases from October 2014 through March 2015 was, at least partially, inspired by Future’s break-up with Ciara.
