(AllHipHop News) British grime star Stormzy’s debut record Gang Signs & Prayer has knocked Rag’n’Bone Man off the top of the U.K. album chart.
The two Brits were engaged in an intense back-and-forth battle for the number one spot, with the 23-year-old rapper taking over at the top with combined sales of 69,000.
Gang Signs & Prayer also racked up the most first-week streams in U.K. chart history.
Reacting to his album’s success, Stormzy tells OfficialCharts.com “It hasn’t sunk in yet. Honestly, I wish I could take every person who bought and streamed the album out with me, have dinner with them, dedicate a whole night to them. I don’t take your support for granted. I can’t thank you enough.”
Human drops to two, while Ed Sheeran’s 2014 album x (multiply) returns to the top three as he releases his new album ÷ (divide) today (March 3).
The soundtrack to the movie “Trolls,” and Adele’s 25 round out the top five.
Sheeran, who performed a surprise duet with Stormzy at last week’s BRIT Awards, maintains his grip on the top of the U.K. singles chart as his track Shape of You lands an eighth week at number one.
Coldplay and dance duo The Chainsmokers’ collaboration “Something Just Like This” is at two, while Sheeran’s “Castle on the Hill” is at number three.
