Verzuz returned on November 19 with two of the most legendary rap stars to come out of Atlanta, Georgia. Season two of the popular digital series launched with longtime adversaries Gucci Mane and Jeezy going head-to-head in a hits-for-hits battle from ATL’s Magic City strip club.
According to Verzuz organizers, the latest matchup drew huge numbers. Around 9.1 million people reportedly watched Gucci and Jeezy run through some of their most loved songs. 5.5 million users tuned in via Instagram, 2.3 million viewers saw the show on Apple Music, and at least 1.3 million watched on YouTube/Facebook.
The verified Verzuz Instagram account posted:
This viewership number from last night actually makes Verzuz bigger in ratings than the MTV VMA’s, NBC’s The Voice, the Billboard Awards, the CMA’s, the Latin Grammy’s, Dancing With The Stars or The Masked Singer respectively on any given night for those primetime shows this year. OUR culture has made us the top show in the world for music outside of The Grammy’s. Thank you infinitely!
In contrast, season 29 of ABC’s Dancing With The Stars peaked at 8.12 million viewers for the season premiere on September 14. Season 19 of NBC’s The Voice topped off at 8.2 million eyeballs for the October 19 episode. The 2020 Country Music Association Awards pulled in 7.1 million viewers, the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards brought in 6.4 million viewers, and the 2020 Billboard Music Awards totaled just 3.6 million viewers.
