(AllHipHop News) Iggy Azalea has experienced a turbulent entertainment career. The Australian rapper reached the top of the Hot 100 with “Fancy,” and she faced significant criticism for charges of cultural appropriation.
With the new single “Savior” featuring Quavo, the 27-year-old performer is attempting to make a musical comeback. Iggy recently spoke with The Cruz Show about her new music.
The interview also included a conversation about the backlash directed at Kim Kardashian after the reality TV star credited white actress Bo Derek for her Fulani braids. Like Azalea, Kim K has regularly been accused of appropriating black culture.
“I can understand why some people feel hurt about it because braids are an African-American hairstyle. And I also understand that her inspiration was Bo Derek,” said Iggy. “But I can understand why people feel like give props to where it originates from too.”
She continued, “That’s something that I definitely made mistakes on in the past too, so I understand her making a mistake. It’s okay to be inspired by Bo Derek and that movie, but also I can understand why people feel like there should be an acknowledgment of also where they originated from and where Bo Derek took her inspiration from.”
