The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers
(ASCAP) will honor Jay-Z and Rick James with the performance agency’s Golden Note
Award during the 17th Annual ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Heritage Awards.
The invitation-only awards dinner will take
place June 28 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. The
event honors the top R&B and Hip-Hop songwriters and publishers that belong
to the performing rights organization, which turns 90 years old this year.
The Golden Note Award is one of the most prestigious
honors that a member of
ASCAP can receive. Past songwriters that have
received the award include
Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, Sean "P. Diddy"
Combs, Garth Brooks, Jose Feliciano, Tom Petty, Elton John, and Jimmy Jam and
Terry Lewis and others.
The event will also honor ASCAP’s "Songwriter
of the Year," "Publisher of the Year," "Top Rap Song of
the Year" and will feature performances by several award-winning songwriters
and artists.
