Jazz Legend, Rap Collaborator Miles Davis Honored With USPS-Issued Stamp

(AllHipHop News) Legendary jazz musician Miles Davis will be on the receiving end of a new honor, with the U.S. Postal Service recognizing him with his own stamp. As part of a joint issue with the U.S. and the French postal service, La Poste, stamps honoring Davis and French singer Edith Piaf will be issued in 2012. Davis’ latest achievement comes more than 20 years after his death on September 28, 1991, in Santa Monica, Ca. During his lifetime, the trumpeter became known as one of the most influential musicians of the 20th Century, and was instrumental in the creation of bebop, jazz fusion, cool jazz, and hard bop. Davis, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006, also delved into Hip-Hop with his final studio album, Doo-Bop, on a collaboration with DJ/producer, Easy Mo Bee. The posthumous honor for the musician was nothing more than “fitting” in the eyes of Lee Barham, chairman of the steering committee for the Miles Davis Jazz Celebration. “Miles Davis was one of the greatest jazz musicians and trumpet players in the world. Before Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley, there was Miles Davis,” Barham told The Telegraph.
