Kanye West’s debut album The College Dropout proved that the rapper made the right career decision. The album, which shipped a million copies, moved over 443,000 copies and will debut at #2 on Billboard’s Top 200, bested by the sophomore set of singing powerhouse, Norah Jones.I’m really happy about my success as a new artist,” West said. “I feel like God has really had his hand on this project. I’m sure he feels like I’m not humble enough, and maybe he figured if I had that #1 spot, I would’ve lost my mind.”West did get a #1 spot, on the Hip-Hop/R&B album charts, but said he was aiming for the coveted #1 Top 200 slot.”It’s been a humbling experience to come out the same week as Norah,” West continued. “I even went out and bought her album. I hope she buys mine. But, I’m the most competitive artist in the game. I want to win, I want that number one slot. If me and Norah come out at the same time next year, I’m gonna beat her.”Roc-A-Fella CEO Dame Dash was also pleased with the results of West’s debut.”I think its a beautiful thing that Roc-A-Fella can enter the charts in such a big way after 10 years in the game,” Dash added. “It’s a breath of fresh air to be able to support a new movement in hip-hop and an artist like Kanye West. We aretruly proud of him.”West is in the process of completing a nationwide promotional tour.
