(AllHipHop News) Singer Kelis is swapping city life in Los Angeles to run her own farm.
The “Milkshake” star has placed her Glendale, California home on the market so she and her young family can relocate to the country, where the mother-of-two plans to grow as much of her own food as possible.
“Now that I’ve got these two boys, I want to control a little bit more how we eat,” she told architecturaldigest.com. “We’re buying a farm, so that’s why we’re moving: so that we can grow everything and sustain everything that way.”
Kelis shares eight-year-old son Knight with her ex-husband, rapper Nas, and two-year-old boy Shepherd with her current partner, real estate agent Mike Mora.
The singer, who released her first cookbook in 2015, will be leaving behind a much-loved home – she purchased her 1920s property in 2012 after falling in love with the architectural details.
“The architecture inside the house was amazing, and it had a very dramatic, old Hollywood feel,” she says. “The backyard was so glamorous, and really, for me, that felt great. It was so nice for entertaining, and I pictured all the things I could do back there.”
The pad boasts five bedrooms, two fireplaces, and a heated saltwater pool, in addition to special culinary additions, like an indoor and outdoor kitchen, as well as a smoker.
She adds, “We smoke meat, so we have a BBQ smoker. We can do great grilled vegetables and steaks and sit outside with a glass of wine. It’s so nice.”
