Kendrick Lamar is nearing the settlement of a copyright infringement lawsuit regarding a sample he used on “Rigamortis,” a track from his 2011 album Section.80, VIBE reports.
Jazz musicians Eric Reed and Willie Jones III claim that K. Dot used the rhythm of their track “The Thorn” without their permission and didn’t provide any financial compensation. They filed the lawsuit in Sept. 2014 for $1 million, which would cover lost earnings, damages, lawyer’s fee and back royalties. Reed and Jones III also want rights to the song.
