(AllHipHop News) Kendrick Lamar and Mary J. Blige have teamed up for their own version of Bruce Springsteen’s politically outspoken track “American Skin (41 Shots).”
Springsteen was originally inspired to record the track after the controversial police killing of Amadou Diallo in February of 1999, but he continued to perform it during similar circumstances, such as the unjust shooting death of Trayvon Martin.
Unfortunately, the issue of police brutality and racism is still as prevalent as ever with black men like Terrence Crutcher, Alton Sterling, and Keith Lamont Scott becoming casualties of police violence within the calendar year.
Mary J. Blige recently sang a portion of the track during a conversation with former First Lady and presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton on her Apple Music show, 411 when discussing the issue of racial inequity.
