(AllHipHop News) In early August, Khalid announced his plans to host a benefit concert for his hometown of El Paso, Texas following a tragic mass shooting in the town. “A Night for Suncity” show took place on September 1.
“Last night we raised [$500,000] for the El Paso Community Foundation! Thank you guys so much for the support ❤️,” wrote the “Talk” singer on Instagram.

Khalid performed at the event. In addition, SZA, Lil Yachty, Rae Sremmurd, Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey, and Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke made appearances.
“I can’t tell you what it means for El Paso to have @thegreatkhalid here. He was amazing tonight. Giving so much of his time and talent and compassion to families who’ve been through so much. Bringing power and joy to the people of El Paso and Juarez, O’Rourke tweeted.
According to reports, 22 people were killed and more than 20 others were injured in the August 3 massacre. A 21-year-old suspected white supremacist was arrested and charged with capital murder. Federal officials are said to be considering hate crime and firearm charges as well.
Khalid moved to El Paso when he was a senior in high school, flourished here, and said later “I didn’t feel like I had a home until I moved to El Paso.” He chose to embrace El Paso and has now come back to help and to celebrate El Paso.
