Footwear announces a sponsorship pact with legendary rap artist
KRS-One to bring forth an event celebrating the worldwide
phenomenon known as Hip-Hop. The 8-day event, known as Hip-Hop
Appreciation Week, will take place from May 14-21, 2001. The
message that will be honed at various events during the week
will be concentrated on a collective movement dedicated to
decriminalizing Hiphop’s public image.
High profile events
will include the press conference and proclamation ceremony
on Monday, May 14, at City Hall, NY from 9am-10:30am ET. Scheduled
attendees include: Governor, George E. Pataki, Manhattan Borough
President, C. Virginia Fields, NY State Senator, Chuck Schumer,
and Bronx Borough President, Fernando Ferrar and will be open
to the public. On Wednesday, May 16, the International Hip-Hop
Conference/Declaration of Peace Ceremony, an invite only event,
will take place at the prestigious United Nations Building,
Rm 414, from 5:30pm-8:30pm ET. A private concert at SOB’s,
New York, NY will be held showcasing marquee artists including
KRS-One May 20, from 8pm-12am ET to mark the event’s closing.

to the movement along with educating our young target market
about what Hip-Hop representation is all about," states
Lugz marketing coordinator, Calvin Peters. "The culture
itself is a positive medium that holds a vast economic and
social power which has been the foundation of our company
image over the years, so we are happy to be a part of an event
as important as this," added Larry Schwartz, Lugz executive
