Queen Latifah, Ice Cube, Eve and LL Cool J were nominees for BET’s first
annual BET Comedy Awards.
The new awards
show takes place on September 28 at the Pasadena Civic Center in Pasadena, California.
The awards show
will be broadcast live and aims to recognize the achievements of “urban
comedians” and will be hosted by veteran actor/comedian/radio personality
Steve Harvey.
Performers at the
First Annual BET Comedy Awards include Jamie Foxx, Chris Rock, Wanda Sykes,
213 which features Snoop, Warren G. and Nate Dogg.
The Wayans family
will receive the inaugural BET Comedy Icon Award, for their long legacy of providing
humor in the field of comedy.
“The Bernie
Mac Show,” “The Parkers,” “Girlfriends,” “My
Wife and Kids,” “Chappelle’s Show,” “White Girls”
and “Barbershop 2” led with the most nods.

years, we set a precedent with the BET Awards as the most-watched awards show
among African Americans, thanks to the industry supporters
who embraced it and the millions of fans who tuned in," Debra Lee, BET’s
President and Chief Operating Officer said. "Now we’re taking that momentum
in a new direction, creating the first major awards ceremony dedicated to urban
comedy which salutes the incredible talent of the performers, directors and
writers that create it.”
BET will televise
an encore presentation of the awards show on Tuesday, October 12 at 9 PM.
