(AllHipHop News) Rap superstars Lil Nas X and Cardi B are being sued over their song “Rodeo.”
A producer named Brandon Lee claims the song, which is on the “Old Town Road” rapper’s debut EP 7, lifted pieces of his song and he hasn’t made a dime yet.
Apparently, Brandon Lee penned a song titled “gwenXdonlee4-142.”
The song was eventually incorporated into another song titled “Broad Day” by PuertoReefa & Sakrite Duexe.
Lee says the latter was sampled by Lil Nas X and unleashed on “Rodeo” featuring Cardi B in June.
When comparing the two tracks, it’s easy to hear that they do have similarities sonically.
In the lawsuit, Lee explains how both are built on a “4-measure phrase outlining the chord progression E, F, G, F, E.”
Also, he states the tempo, drumbeats, and chord progressions are the same, with both records utilizing guitar and wind instruments.
While there’s no telling where or how the two artists first heard Lee’s song, Lee makes it known that “Broad Day” was made public in the hip-hop space, specifically in Atlanta.
Lee is simultaneously suing Sony Music Entertainment and Columbia Records, whom Lil Nas is signed to, as well as Cardi’s former manager Klenord Raphael.
