(AllHipHop News) Famed R&B singer Mary J. Blige will soon be a single woman after 12 years of marriage.
According to TMZ, the “Queen of Hip-Hop Soul” is divorcing her husband and manager, Martin “Kendu” Isaacs.
Mary J. married Kendu in a lavish ceremony at her Bergen County, New Jersey home.
According to the legal filing, Mary J. Blige cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split.
In 2009, the couple hit the headlines for the wrong reasons. Mary J. Blige was caught hitting Kendu at a release party at M2 in New York.
And in 2014, she told Stella Magazine: “All females for me, all guys for him. There’s none of that, ‘Oh, that’s my female friend Oh, that’s my guy friend.’ No, not in a marriage, I’ve never seen that work.”
Mary also said she never wanted to have children of her own with Kendu, so acting as a stepmom to his children Briana, Jordan and Nas was a perfect fit for her lifestyle.
“I was never sitting around thinking, ‘Oh God, I want a baby. No.’ And then these very special kids came along and it was like they were tailor made for me to be their stepmom,” Mary J. told the magazine. “’I’ve known the younger two since they were babies, so they really are my family.”
