(AllHipHop News) Beyonce dad Mathew Knowles decided not to intervene when her marriage to Jay-Z was in trouble, as he didn’t want to be an overbearing parent.

Rumors the superstar couple’s relationship had hit the rocks first emerged when video footage emerged of the singer’s sister Solange attacking Jay in an elevator after the Met Gala in New York in 2014.

Late last year, the rapper confessed to being unfaithful during their nine-year marriage.

On Tuesday, Mathew was asked by Kate Garraway, a host on TV breakfast show “Good Morning Britain,” whether he found it hard not to intervene after viewing the elevator footage and reading reports of marital strife.

In response to her question, the 66-year-old said he did not interfere in his daughters’ lives as they were strong women and had to make their own mistakes.

“It’s always hard for a parent to let go,” Mathew explained. “I felt the same way when I was growing up, I didn’t want to be up under my parents’ nest as I got older. That’s only natural. I think all of us have experienced that with our parents so I understand that.

“I hope and I feel very, very calm about this and comfortable that both Solange and Beyonce were given the tools to be successful. Are they going to make mistakes? Absolutely. But mistakes are an opportunity to grow, not a reason to quit, so I feel comfortable about that.”

Mathew was being interviewed about his new book, “Racism: From the Eyes of a Child,” his personal account of growing up as a child in racially segregated America, and added he was more worried about his daughters experiencing prejudice than how they handle their personal lives.

“I’m more concerned about what’s going to happen to them when we look at racism and colorism around the world – that’s my concern,” he said.

Beyonce, 36 who shares three children with Jay, 48, first appeared to address their marital problems in her smash hit 2016 album Lemonade as it included several lyrics about a cheating partner.

Jay, real name Shawn Carter, then released his own confessional album 4:44 last year and admitted to “infidelity” in an interview with The New York Times.
