(AllHipHop News) Six months after signing with Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group, Ohio’s Stalley finally has released his highly anticipated project, Savage Journey to the American Dream.
With longtime Jay-Z engineer DJ Young Guru behind the boards mixing the 14-track project, Stalley acquired the talents of Rick Ross, Wale, Meek Mill, Curren$y, Avriel Epps, and Anthony Flammia to lend production from The Block Beattas, Soundtrakk, Chuck Inglish, and Chad Hugo of the Neptunes.
“It’s the most album-sounding project for me as far as the music goes,” said Stalley of the project. “[People] are going to see the growth lyrically, musically, production-wise. There are definitely some surprises on there. But it’s still Stalley, it’s still that Intelligent Trunk Muzik vibe to it.”
Following up his critically acclaimed Lincoln Way Nights album in 2011, Stalley has been steady at work releasing songs from his Songs by Me, Stalley series to preface the release.
“The ‘American Dream’ is something I’m still struggling to define,” Stalley said of his inspiration behind the mixtape title. “When I was younger, my dream was to be a professional basketball player as a way out of a small town. You hear stories about people leaving their town to follow their dreams and ‘make it.’ I wanted to make it. But for me, personally, my dreams shifted because injuries prevented me from becoming the athlete I wanted to be. Now my goals are totally different. I’m still in pursuit of the American Dream, and one day I’ll define it.”
Artwork for the project was designed by artist Patrick Martinez who used his signature neon works to symbolize the twisted and broken roads on the long journey towards the elusive “American Dream.”
Tomorrow night (March 31), Stalley will be performing at Blue Cloud in Dallas, Texas, and will follow up with an after party at Beamers.
