Midwikid
ran into troubles attempting to shoot the video for "Like We Sposed Ta,"
off of their debut album, Something Wikid This Way Comes. The duo (B12
and M.A.G.) was set to shoot the video in their hometown of Michigan City, Indiana.
The group planned to shoot a block party scene for the video, inviting local
residents to participate, saying that the shoot would last three hours or more.
When Police Chief Gene Simmons and Mayor Sheila Brillson learned the details,
they canceled the video shoot because proper permits were not obtained. Simmons
said that he called the video’s production company and stressed that the group
can apply for a permit for a later date.
"Normal procedures are (that) you have to
appear before the Board of Works before you close a street," Simmons told
the The News-Dispatch.. "We, being a police department, didn’t have time
to put together proper security for this event. Under normal circumstances,
we would welcome such a group coming into our community and filming," he
said.
Mayor Sheila Brillson was also emphatic in stressing
that they supported the local group, releasing their album nationwide on ex-Naughty
By Nature producer Kay Gee’s Divine Mills label, which is distributed through
Arista. "We welcome a film crew here," she said. "It’s a wonderful
opportunity for Michigan City."
The group has already canned scenes in Chicago,
and say that they will have to film the rest of the video there as well.
Something Wikid This Way Comes arrives
