(AllHipHop News) Missy Elliott will be honored by Essence at the magazine’s 2018 Black Women In Music event. The rapper-singer is being celebrated for her two-decade career in the entertainment industry.
“I am humbly grateful that [Essence] will honor me at #BlackWomenInMusic,” tweeted Missy on Thursday. “I couldn’t be more thankful and excited to receive this recognition.”
The 4-time Grammy winner has released six albums, five of which are certified platinum. She also helped craft tunes for other acts such as Jodeci, Aaliyah, Timbaland, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Beyoncé.
“The artistry of Missy Elliott cuts across generations—underscored by her vast creative accomplishments and contributions to the culture,” stated Vanessa De Luca, Essence Editor-in-Chief. “So prolific is her work, she is an inspiration to women all over the world. Missy’s energetic presence is truly magnetic and we can’t wait to celebrate her as one of the artistic masterminds of our time.”
The 2018 Black Women In Music ceremony is scheduled for January 25 at the Highline Ballroom in New York City.
