The life of Los Angeles
tattoo artist Mister Cartoon will be turned into a feature film “Ink”
via Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment.
The drama will
be directed by Estevan Oriol and executive produced by Oriol and Mister Cartoon
for their Soul Assassin Studios.
The movie focuses
on an East L.A. graffiti artist who lands a job for Hustler magazine as an illustrator,
who eventually rises to the heights of the tattoo world.
“My first
introduction to shop tattoo’s was at Spotlight Tattoo on Melrose in 1993,”
Cartoon said. “I hung out at the shop, got tattooed, drew patterns and
studied the technical rhythm of tattooing even though it would take years for
me to understand the skin and the machines of the trade.”
Cartoon’s
tattoos can be seen on a number of Hip-Hop artists, including Dr. Dre, Eminem,
50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, Xzibit and others.
Cartoon has also
designed album covers, logos and advertisements for Mobb Deep, Fat Joe, Eminem,
Beyonce Joker Brand Clothing and Kanye West.
He also recently
designed a custom “low rider” sneaker for Nike, which was released
in 2004.
