N.E.R.D., the alter ego group of production team The Neptunes, is preparing to release the follow up to their 2002 debut In Search Of…With group member Shae, Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo recorded Fly Or Die in Los Angeles, New York and their hometown of Virginia Beach, Virginia.The trio decided to drop former backup group Spymob and played their own instruments on the new album.”We’ve always played our own instruments in everything we do, but we convert them into programming for the final tracks,” Hugo said. “We decided to pick up the instruments and play ourselves and leave it like that. It’s more honest and people don’t know this side to us yet.”The new installment features influences by many genres of music, including classic rock, Hip-Hop, old school funk and new wave music.”I think we learned a lot from the first album and we’ve opened up more here,” Hugo continued. “I think we’re going places we haven’t gone before.”Fly Or Die hits shelves March 23.
