(AllHipHop News) Skepta has been given the title of chief in a ceremony held in his parents’ home state of Ogun in Nigeria.
The honor was bestowed on the rapper after he performed a Homecoming concert in Lagos, Nigeria, to which he invited pals J Hus, Not3s, Wizkid and Davido to perform alongside himself and Boy Better Know.
Skepta, real name Joseph Adenuga Jr., was given the chieftaincy title, Amuludun of Odo Aje, which translated means the Chief Entertainer of Odo Aje.
“Thank you to the Baale, Chiefs of Odo Aje and King for presenting me with my Chieftaincy title today. I am honored and will continue to put time and love into Nigeria, especially the community of Odo Aje,” the north London born musician wrote next to a video posted on Instagram of him leaving the ceremony with his parents.
“Big Love, Joseph Olaitan Adenuga Jnr – Chief Amuludun Of Odo Aje,” he concluded, describing the experience as “unforgettable”.
Skepta’s title was conferred in recognition of his positive contribution to community wellbeing, through entertainment, in the country of his parent’s birth, where he has spent a lot of time in recent years performing at festivals and putting on his own shows.
The 35-year-old Mercury Prize winner is in the country with supermodel girlfriend Naomi Campbell, who kept her Instagram followers updated with all aspects of the ceremony on her Stories.
She later shouted him out with a post on Instagram, in which the rapper is dressed in his ceremonial robes.
“Congratulations Chief Joseph Olaitan Adenuga!” she praised.
