On November 18, the BET network aired the two-hour special titled Smoke: Marijuana + Black America. Hip Hop icon/businessman Nasir “Nas” Jones executive produced and narrated the documentary.
Nas is also lending his voice to a marijuana legalization public service announcement in conjunction with the technology company Weedmaps. The 30-second spot advocates for fair access to the growing cannabis market and references the late civil rights leader John Lewis’s call for activists to get into “good trouble” in order to spark change.
“We’re hoping to introduce a new audience to Weedmaps as well as bring attention to some of the important conversations happening around cannabis today,” said Juanjo Feijoo, Chief Marketing Officer at Weedmaps. “This is just one of many steps we are proactively taking to break down stigmas, promote social equity, and encourage all to join us in the fight for change.”
Weedmaps’ “The Fighters for Change” PSA aired during the Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr boxing event on November 28. The fight, which streamed live on the Triller platform, was produced by Tyson’s Legends Only League along with Don Mischer Productions and Anchor Street Collective.
“I’m a proud advocate for cannabis legalization so this partnership with Weedmaps is particularly close to my heart,” stated Mike Tyson. “This is a significant moment for the cannabis industry, and I am committed to doing my part to fight for change.”
