Hip-hop fans who have been savoring for a collaboration between Nas and Rakim since the QB adherent debuted in ’94 with Illmatic, may soon have their collective appetites satisfied. A recent report suggested the two might appear together on a track from Alicia Key’s forthcoming sophomore album.
The Grammy-award winning soul singer told MTV News that she has completed a song with two New York emcees that have never appeared on wax together. When pressed to make public the names of the participants, Keys responded that she didn’t want to ruin the surprise of the as-yet-titled cut.
Given a selection of popular New York rappers, ranging from Method Man, LL Cool J, Ja Rule, Nas, Diddy, and Rakim, news correspondent John Norris disclosed a source has revealed Nas and Rakim will finally be joining forces.
There has been no word as to whether the song will be released as a single, or if Keys produced the track herself.
Keys has been busy working in the studio on the follow up to her number one debut, songs in A minor, which earned five Grammy awards for the braided hair pianist. A released date for the album has not yet been set and no title has been confirmed for the release.
