Rap artists dominated the nominations for the
30th American Music Awards yesterday in Beverly Hills. Universal’s Nelly and
Eminem both led with four nominations each.
Nelly’s Nellyville and Em’s The Eminem
Show
were both nominated for favorite male artist and album in the Pop/Rockcategory and the hip-hop/R&B category.
Nappy Roots were nominated for Best Band, Duo
or Group and for Best New Artist. Ja Rule was nominated as Favorite Male Artists
in the hip-hop/R&B category.
The American Music Award winners are determined
by survey of an estimated 20,000 people conducted by the National Family Opinion.
Such factors as race, age, gender and region are taken into consideration.
The AMA’s will take place at the Shrine Auditorium
in Los Angeles on January 13, 2003 and will be televised live on ABC.
