Netflix Confirms Only Select Shows Like ‘Rhythm + Flow’ Will Be Released Weekly

T.I., Cardi B, and Chance The Rapper will link with industry legends for the streamer’s first music competition show.

(AllHipHop News) This week, news stories began circulating that claimed Netflix was planning to follow Disney+’s upcoming model of releasing original episodes on a weekly basis. However, Netflix’s official Twitter account pushed back on those rumors.

“The weekly release of licensed titles (like Great British Baking Show) isn’t new and in hopes of keeping Rhythm + Flow‘s winner a surprise, we’re trying something new! But not happening with more shows than that,” tweeted Netflix in response to several outlets that reported a modification in the company’s binge-friendly format. The streaming service later added, “We’re not changing.”

Rhythm + Flow is the upcoming Hip Hop competition show starring Cardi B, Chance The Rapper, and Tip “T.I.” Harris. The three rap superstars will serve as judges.

Back in 2018, Cardi responded to critics that took issue with her being in a position to evaluate other artists. The “Bodak Yellow” hitmaker said, “I don’t give a f*ck if you don’t think I’m qualified as a judge. B*tch, I make good f*cking music. You know my name and you know my motherf*cking records. I make hits, hits, hits, hits, hits, hits, hits.”

Rhythm + Flow’s 10 episodes – which take place in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and Atlanta – will come out over a three-week period. The first installment will cover the auditions. The second installment will focus on cyphers, rap battles, and music videos. The third installment will cover samples, collaborations, and declaring the winner.

Netflix’s Rhythm + Flow is scheduled to premiere on October 9. The series follows other music-centered programs on the platform such as HΘMΣCΘMING, Look Mom I Can Fly, Rapture, and Hip-Hop Evolution.
