On Wednesday, Def
Jam president Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter added to his new Roc regime
with the signing of Tru Life, a rapper that has lurked in the underground for
years.
The rapper was being pursued by Snoop Dogg, Sony, SRC/Universal and eventually
Roc La Familia/Def Jam, according to a press release issued by the rapper’s
camp.
Tru Life’s buzz grew exponentially after appearances on DJ Sickamore’s
“I Can Make You Famous” mixtape and a brief high profile performance
with Snoop at the Apollo Theater in Harlem this year.
While he’s gotten accolades recently, the Lower East Side rapper is arguably
best known for a high profile appearance on the “Beef” DVD, which
chronicled a now resolved feud with Mobb Deep.
Tru Life s now working on
“Better Late Than Never” with Green Lantern and Kay Slay mixtape
and he continues to get airplay with his 9th Wonder-produced anthem "The
New New York."
