This week saw the 10-year anniversary of The Marathon mixtape. Ermias “Nipsey Hussle” Asghedom released the 18-track collection in 2010 via his own indie label All Money In.
The Los Angeles emcee/entrepreneur would go on to drop other well-received tapes like The Marathon Continues, Crenshaw, and Mailbox Money. He also delivered the Grammy-nominated Victory Lap studio album under the Atlantic Records umbrella.
Unfortunately, Asghedom was tragically murdered in 2019 at the age of 33. While he left plenty of music before his passing, fans of the late West Coaster were saddened by his death and the fact that his growing career was cut way too short.
Nipsey’s memory lives through his extensive discography and his The Marathon Clothing brand and store. According to the verified TMC Instagram account, another Neighborhood Nip project is on the way next year.
The Marathon Clothing’s IG page posted on December 21:
Today marks 10 years since the release of #TheMarathon. A project our team holds near and dear to our hearts for many reasons. It represents the story of Nipsey’s resilience and unwavering faith in his mission, and the authenticity and honesty in his message. It also was the first seed planted in the Marathon brand that gave fruit to many other branches that Nipsey architected, as only he could do. In commemoration of this anniversary we’re proud to announce our collaborative effort with @okidoki to bring to life an interactive live visual album experience coming in 2021. The experience will give viewers and intimate look at the era that helped shape this masterpiece. The people, the places, the stories, and more. Stay tuned, official drop date coming soon!
