The
New York Lobbying Commission has suspended an investigation into possible inappropriate
activities from Russell Simmons, Benjamin Chavis, and the Hip-Hop Summit Action
Network stemming from their opposition to the Rockefeller Drug Laws.
The protest of the laws culminated in a June 4 rally, which was designed to
call for the repeal of the laws that have been widely deemed as unfair and racially
biased.
Thousands
appeared including Jay-Z, Dame Dash, Mariah Carey and a host of political figures.
The command was released yesterday (August 5) directly from the U.S. District
Court for the Southern District of New York.
The
order said that the Lobbying Commission must “hold its pending investigation
in abeyance and to cancel the otherwise applicable dates for responses to outstanding
subpoenas."
The commission has reportedly complied with the decree.
Finally, the State Attorney General also adjourned a preliminary injunction
hearing that was slated for August 7.
At press time, neither Simmons nor Chavis were available for comment.
