UPDATE: A heart attack is responsible for claiming the life of Big Kap. He died early Wednesday morning.

(AllHipHop News) According to Hot 97 radio personality Funkmaster Flex, New York City DJ Keith “Big Kap” Carter has passed away. Flex and Kap released the 1999 album The Tunnel. The details about the situation are limited, but several Hip Hop figures have taken to social media to offer condolences. Big Kap was 45.

Woke up to terrible news today … We lost Big Kap …. Not only a great DJ, key part of the flip squad and big dog pit bulls , and incredible talker with a unique and awesome voice but more than anything — great guy …always good for a warm smile and a sincere conversation… Was always very fond of this guy ever since I met him .. RIP brother… Sending love and positive vibes to his family, @funkflex , @ciphasounds and all the pit bulls and flip squad
