A judge in the Surrogate Court has granted control of Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s estate to his widow, Icelene Jones, as she and ODB’s mother, Cherry Jones, continue to battle over the deceased rapper’s assets.
Icelene, mother to three of ODB’s (born Russell Jones) children, was reportedly estranged from ODB for years since their 19-year marriage, sources told the New York Daily News.
“Since Icelene now has the authority … we hope that they will come forward to reveal his assets. We are about to commence a discovery proceeding,” Icelene’s lawyer, Darryl Nicholas, told the New York Daily News.
ODB’s mother, Cherry Jones, was allegedly concerned that his other children would be neglected, according to the Daily News.
Cherry has been lobbying to gain control of ODB’s estate in the past weeks.
“She’s [Cherry] the one he [ODB] lived with for 12 years when he was estranged from Icelene,” said Cherry’s partner, Jarred Weisfeld. “She’s the one who made sure he ate. She took care of him.”ODB passed away suddenly on Nov. 13 in a Manhattan recording studio after complaining of chest pains earlier in the day.Authorities are still awaiting autopsy results.<br
