The widow of rapper Ol’ Dirty Bastard has saved DNA proof that the late rapper is the father of her three children. In a press conference yesterday, Icelene Jones, her kids and her lawyer appeared to proclaim that she was the “court appointed” representative of the rapper’s estate.
Icelene Jones also charged that she and her children were not set to receive any funds from the rapper’s upcoming album, A Son Unique. No lawsuit has been filed, but insiders speculate that one may be be presented if a resolution cannot be reached.
To support their assertion that they should receive some support, the group revealed a certificate of marriage and the notion of DNA. Even though the pair was estranged at the time of Dirty’s death, they were married for about 19 years.
Shortly after his death, Jones began fighting over the rapper’s estate, which has been largely controlled by Ol’ Dirty’s mother and manager Jarred Weisfeld. Jones and Weisfeld share a label that recently released a mixtape of ODB’s songs.
“I was real hurt with him doing the things that he’s done,” Jones said to UPI. “But I have nothing against the other children. I’ve met some of them. If they are, they are. If they’re not, they’re not. They’re beautiful children — the ones that I’ve seen. I preserved DNA for this purpose.”
The exact number is unclear, but ODB fathered as many as 13 children.
In related news, Dame Dash held a listening party for ODB’s A Son Unique yesterday and commented on the case.
“People try to take advantage of a bad situation,” Dash told Ballerstatus.net. “We will make sure all his kids get paid, and that’s my word.”
