(AllHipHop News) Queen Latifah is mostly now known for starring in Hollywood movies like Girls Trip, but she is also one of the most successful female rappers in history.
The musician/actress was a recent guest on Ebro In The Morning, and at one point the radio show conversation turned to modern rap.
“To me, Hip Hop is back,” declared Latifah.
The “U.N.I.T.Y.” performer shouted out Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, and Nicki Minaj.
However, she also had some critiques for contemporary Hip Hop music.
“I feel like a lot of rappers lost their balls. They got soft. When things are going on in the world, like with [Donald] Trump or elections, this was the stuff we chewed on,” stated Latifah.
She continued, “Where’s the flip side to Molly, Percocet? Well, the flip side is that you’re missing out on life, you’re sleep, you crashed your car. I’m not judging either way. I’m just saying it’s always good to have both those sides.”
Ebro also asked Queen Latifah about being part of the historic moment at Summer Jam 2017 when Remy Ma brought out several femcees.
Some fans and pundits took the performance as a diss toward Remy’s rival Minaj.
“I didn’t know it was all of us, so I didn’t even really think about that,” said Latifah about the feud. “People can think and say whatever they wanna say. This wasn’t really a moment for all of that. This was a moment for us and for Hip Hop.”
She also spoke about wanting to hear more female voices in the culture.
