Queen Latifah is in talks to star in "F*ckin
A," a new play by Topdog/Underdog playwright and Pulitzer Prize winner,
Suzan-Lori Parks. The play is Park’s reworking of the classic "The Scarlet
Letter."
"I would love to do it, there’s nothing
greater than doing a play," Latifah told industry trade Playbill. "There’s
a discipline to it and I don’t know, I just love the work ethic of doing plays."
Fellow rapper Mos Def already has a lead role
in the play, which starts performances Feb. 25, 2003 at the Public’s Anspacher
Theater.
I would definitely do it, if it was interesting,
if it was fun, and if I can carve out the time in my schedule," Latifah
continued. "So I was like ‘For real, George, how much time would you need
me?’ He said ‘Seven weeks, seven weeks.’ ‘Okay, how about rehearsals?’ ‘Okay,
two months, two months. ‘So okay, you need me for three or four months of my
life. I think I might be able to do that. As long as it’s juicy enough, let
me get something juicy, I might do it.’"
Latifah currently will star as Mama Morton in
the upcoming film, "Chicago." The Broadway musical-turned movie received
8 Golden Globe nominations Thursday morning (Dec 19).
