Questlove Gets Top Cookery Writing Award

(AllHipHop News) The Roots musician Questlove has been nominated for a top American cookery writing award.

The 46-year-old teamed with author Ben Greenman to release a food book, titled something to food about: Exploring Creativity with Innovative Chefs, last year.

Now the tome, which features Questlove’s conversations with 10 innovative chefs from around the world, has been nominated in the Nonfiction category at the 2017 James Beard Awards.

Sharing the news on Instagram, Questlove wrote that his nomination made him want to do a “happy dance” and added, “Wow man, who knew being a fly on the wall watching others work and gathering life notes would lead to this?”

Presented by the James Beard Foundation, a charity founded in 1986 to celebrate America’s culinary heritage, the prestigious prizes are presented annually to food writers, broadcasters, chefs and restaurateurs.

When announcing the release of the book, the multi-instrumentalist explained how he was inspired to co-write the book after dining at famous sushi chef Jiro Ono’s restaurant in Tokyo, Japan.

“This was a journey (a fun tasty one at that) into the lives of Culinary Creatives,” Questlove wrote. “When I took my journey to Japan to eat #Jiro’s sushi I was shocked that he referenced himself as an Artist. Not a chef.”

Writers will be honored during a ceremony taking place in New York City on April 25, while restaurateurs and chefs will be celebrated at an event in Chicago, Illinois on May 1.
