Philadelphia rapper John “Tommy Hill” Wilson testified yesterday in Federal court during the trial of a family accused of harboring drugs and Weapons of Mass Destruction.Hill, a former member of popular Philadelphia rap group The Ram Squad, was busted last December and charged with major drug offenses. He agreed to cooperate with authorities and testify against Johnnie Bellmon, 61, and sons Harry, 41 and Benjamin, 30, in hopes of having his own sentence reduced.Wilson’s arrest has already led to several high profile arrests in the city, while members of Philly’s political machine are being investigated in an ongoing corruption probe.Police raided the Bellmon’s house and uncovered large quantities of marijuana, as well as four hand guns, an ammunition making machine, an artillery rocket, three hand grenades and 20,000 rounds of live ammunition. The Bellmons are charged under Pennsylvania’s new WMD laws that passed after 9/11 to hand out stiffer penalties to terrorists.”When you have a crack strip, that block is normally your turf,” an animated Wilson testified yesterday. “So what Ben did was bring more drugs to somebody else’s turf and that began a drug war.”Wilson said he knew the Bellmons for years and became even closer when he shared a cell with the youngest Bellmon at the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility.Wilson testified that he and other Bellmons frequently walked the streets with automatic weapons and that all the firepower was for retaliation against a rival drug gang member who killed another Bellmon brother. The RAM Squad released several modest selling independent release. The group has recorded with several major artists including Cam’ron, Raekwon and others. The group was signed to Universal Records for a short period of time, but was subsequently dropped due to lack luster sales.
