(AllHipHop News) “Melanin Magic” featuring Chris Brown is the latest single from New York rapper Remy Ma. The track is a precursor to Rem’s Seven Winters & Six Summers album.
“I posted a picture on social media and somebody was saying how they thought I would be pretty if I wasn’t so dark skinned and it sparked this whole conversation,” Remy explained on Request on Beats 1. “First of all, anyone that knows me knows that I wrote the only comment back then I ran out of characters but I didn’t post it and I was like you know what, I have a better way to deal with this.”
She added, “Now we’re starting to see it not just with women who are melanated, but women across the board – in music, in politics, in acting – and you’re seeing this onset of different women coming out and they’re supporting each other. That’s the cool thing… It’s just embracing who you are and the person that God made you to be.”
Reminisce Mackie has embraced partnering with other female rappers in recent months. For example, she will be part of the “Queens of Hip-Hop” concert with Trina, Eve, MC Lyte, Rah Digga, and others.
Cardi B, Young M.A, and DeJ Loaf got shout outs from Remy during her Beats 1 discussion. The interview also included the Love & Hip Hop star conversing about her “Wake Me Up collaborator Lil Kim.
“The first time we got in the studio… we just spent literally a good six hours laughing. She’s hilarious like people would not even know. First of all she’s the coolest chick ever. We say all the time, ‘Yo, I wish we would’ve became friends sooner because there’s so many things we have in common that it’s scary,'” stated Rem.
