(AllHipHop News) Coming off the news that the New York Police Department requested certain Hip Hop acts be banned from Rolling Loud New York, the festival’s organizers have called off the Hong Kong event as well. A note on the Rolling Loud Hong Kong Facebook page explained the cancellation.
“We are saddened to announce that Rolling Loud Hong Kong, which was scheduled to occur on October 19th and 20th at Art Park, West Kowloon Cultural District, is being cancelled. After consulting with security experts, it has been determined that it is not possible to organize the upcoming Rolling Loud Hong Kong edition as we had hoped without endangering the safety and well-being of our fans, artist, and staff,” read the Rolling Loud message, in part.
Rolling Loud Hong Kong was set to feature performances by Migos, Wiz Khalifa, Playboi Carti, Ski Mask The Slump God, Lil Skies, and other American rap acts. All tickets will be refunded in full.
Citizens of Hong Kong have been engaged in pro-democracy protests for months. The semi-autonomous region is under the rule of China as part of the “one country, two systems” policy.
The Anti-Extradition Law Amendment Bill Movement faces significant pushback from Hong Kong officials and the authoritative Chinese government. In addition, Hong Kong law enforcement is accused of using excessive force against demonstrators as thousands of people have reportedly been injured by police.
