Russell
Simmons
announced yesterday that he predicts Hip-Hopwill pick New York City’s next Mayor and it will be Mark Green.
He stated to allhiphop.com that the urban vote will be enough
to swing the vote in Green’s favor. Russell is definitely
on to something, as Green currently enjoys a 2 to 1 lead over
the next nearest candidate.
If you are not
from New York City and don’t know Mark Green’s record, he
is a Democrat, New York City’s first Public Advocate. He was
elected with 60% of the vote and was reelected with 73% in
1997, winning more votes than Mayor Giuliani and carrying
each of the five boroughs. Candidates Green is up against
are: The Reverend Al Sharpton (if he decides to run), Bronx
Borough President Fernando Ferrer, City Council Speaker Peter
Vallone, and Comptroller Alan Hevesi.
In other news,
Minister Louis Farrakhan is considering hosting another Hip-Hop
summit at his Chicago Palace in Mid-April. "The last
summit was helpful in killing the East-West war as you know.
The whole agenda is not set, but integrity in songs is one
of them."
