BBC News reports that a Spanish nurse who treated an Ebola patient in Madrid has now been infected with the virus, making her the first case to have contracted the virus outside of Africa.

The nurse was admitted to the hospital Monday morning (Oct. 7) with a high fever and has been isolated in an emergency treatment room. The woman, whose name has not been released, has tested positive for Ebola in initial tests and doctors are currently awaiting the final results. This nurse was on the team that treated Spanish priest Manuel Garcia Viejo, who succumbed to Ebola on Sept. 25th after contracting it in Sierra Leone.
