Special Screenings/Panels Announced For ‘The Kalief Browder Story’ Featuring Producers, Browder’s Brother & Activists

NYC, PHILLY & LA TO HOST EVENTS TO DISCUSS THE TRAGIC TALE AND THE NEED FOR CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM

(AllHipHop News) TIME: The Kalief Browder Story debuted on Spike earlier this month, and the six-part documentary was met with critical acclaim.

Spike partnered with the racial justice group Color Of Change to present Browder’s tragic tale at upcoming special events in Philadelphia, New York, and Los Angeles.

Those screenings will also feature panel discussions with leading criminal justice experts and advocates.

Kalief Browder’s brother and founder of the Campaign to Shut Down Rikers, Akeem Browder, is scheduled to be at the events in Philadelphia on March 30 and Los Angeles on April 3.

Other panelists include The Kalief Browder Story producers Jenner Furst, Julia Nason, Nick Sandow, and Michael Gasparro as well as Color of Change executive director Rashad Robinson, MicNews senior correspondent Darnell Moore, and journalist/filmmaker dream hampton.

The Kalief Browder Story documents the then 16-year-old New Yorker’s time incarcerated at the Rikers Island jail facility and the aftermath caused by that experience.

The Bronx high school student spent three years in Rikers – two of which were in solitary confinement – awaiting trial for a crime he did not commit.

After his release, Browder took his own life.

His unfortunate ordeal at Rikers sparked a national call for reforming New York City’s criminal justice system.
