(AllHipHop News) Terrence “Punch” Henderson has good reason to push Cardi B’s new Invasion Of Privacy album. His Top Dawg Entertainment singer SZA appears on the project’s closing track “I Do.”
Instead of just tweeting out an iTunes link or posting the cover art on Instagram, Punch decided to compare the Bronx newcomer to a Hip Hop icon. He tweeted, “Cardi B is 2pac.”
Other Twitter users with blue checks responded to Punch’s declaration about Cardi. Hot 97’s Ebro Darden questioned why the TDE president would want to invite the level of scrutiny that was sure to come whenever Tupac Shakur is involved in a discussion about modern rappers.
Punch later returned to the social media platform to agree with Ebro’s focus on Cardi and Pac’s similar public support, passion, and transparency. The West Coast executive replied, “Now we talking. The passion and charisma. Even flow and delivery at times when she emphasize certain words for more impact etc.”
Demetrius Shipp Jr, who played Shakur in the All Eyez On Me biopic, jumped in Punch’s mentions as well. Rappers Glasses Malone and J-Haze also reacted to the supposed Cardi/Pac correlation.
“It’s crazy. I see a lot of [people] don’t really pay attention to hip hop music and it’s artist. It’s hard to break Down the point when most ppl don’t even understand why they love Pac in the first place,” wrote Punch.
During his time leading TDE, Punch has overseen projects by Kendrick Lamar, SZA, Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, Jay Rock, and other acts on the label. The California native is also a recording artist in his own right.
