(AllHipHop News) Fresh off his sold-out shows at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall and two new stand-up specials on Netflix, Dave Chappelle is reuniting with The Roots for the Hip Hop band’s annual festival. The 2018 “Roots Picnic” is set for the Festival Pier in Philadelphia on June 2.
The Grammy-winning group will headline the event with a “Jam Session” hosted by Chappelle. The comedian shared a stage with The Roots during his 2017 residency in NYC and for his 2005 documentary/concert film Block Party.
Other acts tapped for the Music Stage include Lil Uzi Vert, Dirty Projectors, 2 Chainz, 6lack, DVSN, Brandy, Rapsody, Rich The Kid, and more. There will also be a Live Mixtape performance by Black Thought with Fabolous and Jadakiss as well as DJ Drama’s Gangsta Grillz with special guests.
In addition to music artists, the “Roots Picnic” will feature Drink Champs, On One with Angela Rye, Questlove Supreme, ItsTheReal, and The Realest Podcast on the Podcast Stage. A Madden + NBA2K Tournament hosted by iPod King Carter, Fashion Panel, Art Panel, Hustle Panel, and The mARkeT will be part of the Lifestyle Stage.
“This year we’ve tried to vary the non-musical elements of the lineup. We see so many homogenous festival lineups, and we’ve always prided ourselves on trying to create unique moments for the Roots Picnic attendee that they can’t see anywhere else. The Roots headline collaborative set is always unique, and in addition we are very bullish on the podcast space, so we’ve decided to dedicate and program an entire stage with some of the best culturally relevant podcasts,” says Shawn Gee, The Roots’ manager and President of Live Nation Urban.
“Roots Picnic” is produced by Shawn Gee along with Roots founding members, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson and Tarik “Black Thought” Trotter. Tickets will be available for purchase beginning Friday, February 16 at 12 pm ET at ticketmaster.com.
