Philadelphia Hip-Hop band The Roots will be honored
with a Hero Award by the local chapter of the National Academy of Arts and Sciences,
the organization that awards Grammy’s.
The group is being honored for their years of
positive contribution to the creative community of Philadelphia.
The group was one of the main Hip-Hop acts that
led the way for a resurgence of Hip-Hop in Philadelphia, clearing the way for
future stars.
The event will be hosted by local radio personality
Tiffany Bacon. Jaguar Wright, Bootsy Collins, Talib Kweli, Joan Osborne and
others will present or perform.
A silent auction is also scheduled for the evening,
with one-of-a-kind music memorabilia, travel and entertainment packages being
auctioned to benefit the chapters Professional Education programs.
The Roots’ root in the Philadelphia music scene

legend Arthur "Lee Andrews” Thompson, who struck big with several national
hits between 1957 and 1959 with his group The Hearts.
